Charcoal Clay Mask for Oily and Acne-Prone Skin

Charcoal Clay Mask for Oily and Acne-Prone Skin
Hand-made in small batches in a Devon garden workshop, this dry-activate charcoal and kaolin clay mask combines activated charcoal's adsorptive power with chia seeds for sustained hydration — the kind of formulation that actually addresses oily and acne-prone skin rather than just sitting on top of it.

Soap Daze makes this mask by hand in a garden workshop in Devon, in small batches, using a dry-powder format that stays stable without preservatives. You activate it yourself — a teaspoon or two mixed with a few drops of lukewarm water in a small bowl — which means every application is fresh.
The formulation does two things at once that most clay masks do not. Kaolin clay and activated charcoal draw out excess oil and impurities; chia seeds and kelp extract (via sodium alginate) work simultaneously to retain moisture and leave skin feeling silky rather than stripped. That balance is the point. Oily and acne-prone skin still needs hydration — pulling out oil without replacing moisture tends to make things worse. Potato starch adds a smoothing finish, and tea tree essential oil brings natural antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. The scent is gently floral with notes of tea, from the lavender essential oil.
Each jar is 30g of dry powder — enough for 5 to 6 masks — packaged in a clear glass jar with a metal lid.
- Kaolin clay: draws excess oil and impurities from the skin
- Activated charcoal: highly adsorbent, powerful detox without harshness
- Chia seeds: retain moisture for longer, superior hydration
- Kelp extract (sodium alginate): leaves skin silky and smooth
- Potato starch: smoothing finish
- Tea tree essential oil: natural antibacterial, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory
- Lavender essential oil: gently floral scent
- Suitable for oily and acne-prone skin; charcoal is compatible with all skin types
- Gentle enough to double as a natural exfoliant
How to use: Add a few drops of lukewarm water to a teaspoon or two of the dry mask powder and mix until a smooth paste forms — a small ceramic bowl or egg cup works well. Apply to the face and leave for 10–15 minutes. If the mask begins to dry out, massage in a little more water. Rinse off in the shower or with a warm wet cloth.
